PLATINUM EMERALD

Saves

Move your save to another emulator

mGBA adds 16 bytes of clock data to the end of a Platinum Emerald save, so its file is 131,088 bytes. Your game and your save are fine. Delta and most phone apps want the plain 128 KB save (131,072 bytes) and start a new game without it. This page trims those 16 bytes. Your file is read by this page and stays in your browser: nothing is uploaded.

1Your save file

The .sav file of your game. mGBA keeps it next to your ROM, with the ROM's name and .sav, unless you set another save folder.

Putting the save in your emulator

Keep a copy of your old save first. Close the game in the emulator before you swap its save.

  • Delta (iPhone, iPad): in the game list, press and hold Platinum Emerald, choose Manage Save File, then Import Save File, and pick the .sav.
  • RetroArch: it calls the save .srm. Rename the file to your ROM's name with .srm (for platinum_emerald.gba: platinum_emerald.srm) and put it in RetroArch's save folder (Settings, Directory, Save Files; if Sort Saves into Folders by Core Name is on, in the core's folder, for example mGBA).
  • Pizza Boy (Android): name the file like your ROM with .sav and put it in the app's save folder, Android/data/it.dbtecno.pizzaboygba/files/pizzaboygba/save (newer Android versions show that folder only to a computer or a file manager that can open Android/data).
  • My Boy! (Android): name the file like your ROM with .sav and put it in the MyBoy folder's save folder on the phone's storage (or in the save folder you chose in My Boy's settings).
  • Nintendo 3DS with open_agb_firm: copy the file to /3ds/open_agb_firm/saves/ on the SD card, named like your ROM with .sav.
  • mGBA: takes either file. Put the .sav next to your ROM, with the ROM's name.

Updated and your save is gone? It is still there: give the new game file the old one's name (a browser may have saved it as "platinum_emerald (1).gba"), or in Delta export the save from the old game and import it into the new one (Manage Save File).

Moving the other way, from Delta or a phone app back to mGBA, needs nothing: mGBA reads the 128 KB save and adds its clock data again the next time you save.
